France Board Index 2009

Published in conjunction with Ernst & Young, the France Board Index 2009 analyses the annual reports of CAC 40 companies. It tracks the progression of numerous measures of corporate governance, including board composition, meetings, committees and director compensation. Highlights include:

  • The average number of board meetings has increased from 8 to 9 per annum.
  • The number of companies that have separated the roles of chairman and CEO has increased from 57% to 66%.
  • 40% of companies have appointed a senior independent director or vice president.
  • The number of external board evaluations is modest, but still increasing.
  • The number of audit and remuneration committee meetings reached a peak due to the ecnomic climate (averaging 6 and 8 respectively.)
