Chris Butler is a core member of Spencer Stuart’s market leading Financial Officer Practice and the firm’s Board Services Practice. From an industry perspective, he focuses on the Technology, Communications & Media and Life Sciences practices. With more than 20 years of experience in executive search consulting, he applies deep sector knowledge and understanding to each assignment.
Chris has significant experience serving the firm’s private equity clients including Oak Hill Capital, Silver Lake Partners, Providence Equity Partners, General Atlantic, Argonaut Private Equity, Elevation Partners, Aurora Capital and Bain Capital.
During his career with Spencer Stuart, he has helped such notable clients as Intel, VISA, eBay and Facebook recruit world-class financial talent. Chris also has contributed to the firm’s intellectual capital, including The Global 50: Perspectives of Leading Audit Committee Chairs and The Global 50: Perspectives on Emerging Leaders in Finance.
Chris has served as a member of Spencer Stuart’s Audit Committee and currently is a member of the firm’s Professional Development Committee.
Prior to joining the firm, Chris was a partner in an executive search firm that specialized in financial services and chief financial officer assignments. He began his career in search in the San Francisco office of another leading international executive search firm. Earlier in his career, Chris worked in the San Francisco office of KPMG Peat Marwick.
Chris earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of San Francisco, and is a certified public accountant (inactive) in the state of California.
